Meet Holly Morriss, a solicitor at Warners Solicitors. From her early ambition to “right the world’s wrongs” to qualifying through the SQE route while gaining valuable paralegal experience. In this Q&A, Holly shares her experiences, tips for aspiring solicitors, and what it’s really like working at Warners. Whether you’re considering a legal career or just starting your journey, Holly’s insight offers honest, practical guidance.
I thought it was a well-respected career where hard work is rewarded. Also being the youngest of 4 I thought everything was unfair and I could right the worlds wrongs.
Prioritising the deadline that will come first and don’t stop until the work is complete, whether this is at 5pm or 11pm at night. Always making sure our work is complete, if a matter isn’t going to complete due to things outside your control, either the other side or perhaps the client not providing the correct information, then any delays need to be conveyed to the client and other side as soon as possible.
Finally qualifying after what felt like a lifetime of exams.
I did the LPC and always planned to get a training contract, but whilst working as a paralegal I was told about the SQE and that I would only need to complete the SQE 2 exams and then I could qualify using my paralegal work as my qualifying work experience, so I did that. If someone knows the area of law they want to work in and already has experience working in that area I would recommend the SQE as they can use their years working and don’t need to add on another 2 year delay to qualifying for the sake of completing a training contract. You will also qualify with more experience that other trainees in the are you want to qualify in.
I wish I knew how expensive becoming a solicitor is, with all the exams and postgraduate degrees required.
Listening, curiosity, and perseverance.
At the interview I got a good first impression of the people who worked here, everyone was friendly.
The firms’ culture is very friendly and welcoming, the people are what make working at Warners great.
